Winthrop High Rambler Robotics [F.R.C. Team #5471]
After several successful years having a Lego® Robotics program at the Middle School (Grades 6-8) level, the Winthrop School District decided to expand to the High School (Grades 9-12) level.
On October 30th, we held our first meeting to show students, parents, and the Winthrop community in general what FIRST© and F.R.C. were all about.
F.R.C. Team #2648, “Infinite Loop” from Messalonskee High School brought their frisbee-launching robot, while F.R.C. Team #4041, “Iron Tigers” from Gardiner Area High School brought their “Aerial Assist” robot. Our students got to see the robots up close and even operate them. More importantly, they got to meet with other students who were in F.R.C. and discuss F.R.C. with them.
Here are some pictures from that event:
On November 22nd, F.R.C. Team #3930, “S.M.A.R.T.” from Spruce Mountain High School held a Rookie Training Day, where our team and F.R.C. Team #5506, “Viking Landers” from Searsport District High School had training in all aspects of F.R.C.. Perhaps most imporantly, each of the rookie teams got to build a working robotics drive platform from the standard F.R.C. kit of parts.
After the event, we were allowed to bring the drive platform back to Winthrop High School, where we got to show it to the other students and practice with it some more.
